Solution Summary
CSOs need a rental car that reduces their operating costs.
SRC advantages are :
- Small parking area. A SRC needs only 40 square feet. A conventional rental car needs 112.
- Large crush zones. A six foot long nose would absorb the impact energy of a collision with a heavier vehicle. Small cars like the 8 foot long Smart car or the 9 foot long Think City are not safe in 50 mph traffic with 8000 pound SUVs. The SRC would be.
- Tubular Metal Frame. A tubular metal frame would protect riders with a strong and rigid roll cage. Doors would have thick bars nine inches wide.
- Long life and low maintenance costs. The SRC could cost 30% less, on an annual basis, to operate than a Honda Civic.
- Resistant to damage. A SRC will have flexible plastic skins over a tough tubular metal frame. The plastic will bounce back from impacts that would dent metal.
- Damages easily repaired. Bolt on plastic body panels can be quickly replaced if scratched or ripped.
- Durable controls, vents and handles. Metal handles will last 20+ years.
- Messes will be easily removed. Absorbent cloth seat covers will be attached to non-absorbent metal mesh seats.
- Less labor to clean the interior. Interchangeable seat covers and floor mats will be swapped out in minutes.
- Possible soft nose. If required to reduce injuries to pedestrians.
- Low emissions. The SRC would either be battery electric, parallel hybrid, plugin hybrid, LPG or CNG.
