CMT would be a combination of Bus Rapid
Transit (BRT) and shared taxi.

All public transit provided by shared taxi cabs. Average 2.6 riders per
trip.
• Capetown, South
Africa : 60% of commuters use shared taxi vans that typically seat 15.

10,000 Minibus Taxis in operation. Operate without tax payer
subsidy.

The routes terminate at government-built transit depots.
In a huge structure above the Cape Town train station, thousands of
vans converge from throughout the metropolitan area on a depot
organized into dozens of lanes, one for each route. Several vans
are waiting to load in each lane.

Differences: CMT vs Shared Taxi
• CMT taxi vans would be subsidized by taxes. In most
countries the shared taxis are not subsidized.
• Lower fares with CMT.
• One electronic fare card pays for both taxi and bus
• Riders pay 10 cents a mile regardless of number of
riders
• Vans run every ten minutes regardless of group
size.
• Van drivers are paid by Capital Metro, not by
riders.
