Sample Trips
Trip times for four sample trips were estimated for CMT and Capital
Metros’s conventional bus service.
The Capital Metro trip times are mostly determined by their online trip
planner.
Details of two estimates are shown below.

Please take note of the fat arrows pointing to:
Oak Hill, Loyola &
Wentworth, Oltorf & Alvin Devane,
Howard Lane & IH 35, and LakeLine Mall

Trip 1: Oltorf & Alvine Devane to LakeLine Mall
Image is from the Cap Metro Trip Planner. It looks like it takes
three transfers.
Trip time is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Add another 15 for walking and
waiting before and after the bus.
Total estimated time is 2 hours 45 minutes or 165 minutes

Estimate of same trip by CMT: 79 minutes or one hour & 19 minutes.
One express travels at 50 mph for 15.5 miles on a HOT lane.

Trip 2: Loyola & Wentworth to LakeLine Mall
Two hours and 26 minutes on the bus. Add another 14 for walking and
waiting.
Total is two hours & 40 minutes, or 160 minutes.

Estimate of same trip by CMT: 82 minutes or one hour and 22 minutes
Assumes the express bus can average 30 mph with signal priority, signal
coordination and queue jumpers.

CMT will typically take two transfers for long trips while existing bus
service takes two or three.
As shown by maps in the section on express routes, riders leaving the
low income core will be able to take a single express trip to most
other transit centers.
Transfers with CMT will be faster, more comfortable and secure.
The TC will have a roof and an enclosed space with air
conditioning.
Of the four trips it seems that Cap Metro’s average time is close to 2
hours & 40 minutes.
A rider would have to spend more than 5 hours per day getting to and
from work.
