Compare CMT and A Light Rail System for Cost and CO2 Impact





CMT costs less per mile, has more miles of route and attracts more new riders.
Costs less per mile since all miles are on roads that are shared with auto traffic.
Queue jumpers, signal contral and HOT lanes permit the CMT express bus to travel faster than a conventional bus.
The more extensive CMT express network, coupled with 150 circulator routes
that run every ten minutes will connect more homes to more jobs and attract more riders.



More riders riding farther will displace more car miles.
CMT : 40,000 riders x 24 miles per day = 1.2 riders per car mile x 800,000 car miles
Liht Rail : 6000 riders x 16 miles per day = 1.2 riders per car mile x 80,000 car miles
The CMT buses and vans might not be as clean as the train.
They might avoid less CO2 per 100 passenger miles.
But because the reduction in car miles is much greater with CMT,

Light Rail : 6000 new riders X $4000 = $ 24 million per year
