Bus Rapid Transit Examples

CMT would be a combination of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and shared taxi.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Increases Ridership
•    250% increase for Miami, Florida, “When you see cars on U.S. 1 moving 5 mph or less and our buses zoom by at 35 mph or greater, it tells a story.”
•    200% increase for Honolulu :. The Phase 1 City Express! reduced travel time on the local bus service from 68 minutes to 35 minutes or 49%.
•    85% increase for Boston
•    50 fold for Curitiba, Brazil : Curitiba's BRT system serves more than 1.3 million riders a day. Fifty times as many as served 20 years ago.

CMT uses ideas from BRT and Shared Taxi
•    Fast board gates like BRT in Curitiba
•    Measures to speed bus travel
•    Frequent pickups like Dolmus shared taxi in Turkey
•    Vans for small groups as done in Capetown.
•    Demand Responsive Taxi Service like shared taxi in Rimouski Quebec

Differences:  CMT vs BRT

•    While BRT uses expensive dedicated lanes, CMT would use cheaper shared lanes such as HOT lanes, toll roads or streets with Queue Jumpers
•    CMT express typically run 3 miles between stops (BRT is more like .5 to 1 mile)
•    CMT transit centers (TCs) would have air conditioning, restrooms and other amenities. ( no such amenities at BRT fast board gates)
